Alberto Urzaiz

Alberto Urzaiz (Mérida, Yucatán, 1950) is a visual artist trained as an architect at ITESM Monterrey. He began painting at a young age and has remained active for over five decades. He was a professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY) (1982–2012) in the areas of Design, Theory, and Art History, and has contributed drawings and caricatures to publications. His exhibition career began in the 1970s, and he has since distinguished himself in competitions such as the Second FIC Vidriera Monterrey Pictorial Art Competition (Honorable Mention, 1975) and the IV Yucatán Biennial of Visual Arts (First Place in Painting, 1991). In 1997, he received the CONACULTA Medal for Artistic Merit. In 1999, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Yucatán (MACAY) dedicated a retrospective to him, and the Mérida City Council published the book Alberto Urzaiz: The Forms of Time.
