Francisco Gongora Cervera (GONCE) (b. 2000, Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico) is a contemporary painter and sculptor based in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. Working primarily with oil painting, oil sticks, and oil pastels on paper or canvas, as well as laser-cut stainless steel, he is best known for his large-format, often monochromatic oil paintings composed of multiple thick layers of paint, and for his stainless-steel sculptures produced in a range of finishes.
His practice explores the limits of repeating a single figure to generate diverse compositions, while examining the substance that constitutes form—from the defining line that shapes it to the fill that reaffirms its identity. Through processes of accumulation, layering, and variation, GONCE develops visual structures that oscillate between persistence and transformation. Notable projects include An Idea in My Head (2020–2026), a series of paintings shaped as a single head from which varied compositions emerge, and Las fronteras del yo (2025–2026), a series of large-format stainless-steel sculptures reflecting on the boundaries of being and its non-existence.
Francisco Gongora Cervera (GONCE) has exhibited at Galería Secreta and Teatro Peón Contreras inMérida, Yucatán, Mexico. His work is held in various private collections across the globe.
