This open call is addressed to Mexican or foreign artists (hereinafter "the participants") who reside in any state of the Mexican Republic.

TOPIC: IDENTITY

Proposals will be received that address the topic of identity construction, in any of its meanings, taking as a definition:

Set of traits of an individual or a community that characterize them in front of others.

The collective exhibition contemplates the arrangement of the pieces in the space according to specificities in the theme (e.g. culture, folklore, gender, native peoples, etc.); with the intention of generating dialogue and constructing a narrative around identity from the diversity of the work and the participants.

DISCIPLINE OR MEDIUM: Painting, sculpture, photography and installation (that can be mounted on a wall, floor or ceiling since there will be no bases or pedestals).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Submit a proposal for 1 to 3 works, complying with a format of:

Minimum 20 x 20 cm - Maximum 60 x 60 cm

If the work has a frame, it will be taken into account to take the maximum dimensions.

  • Participants agree to send and pack the work to the Gallery. For its part, the Gallery will be responsible for returning the work once the exhibition is over.

Participants must provide adequate packaging to ensure the physical integrity of the pieces during shipping. The gallery will use the same packaging system for the return.

  • Name
  • Year of birth
  • Place of residence

2. Contact information:

  • Email
  • Phone
  • Social networks

3. Selection of pieces:

  • Artist profile (maximum 500 words)
  • Maximum 3 works: It must be specified whether the three pieces belong to a modular work, or if each one is independent. If they are modular, it must be specified whether they are sold separately or together.
  • Each piece must include:
  • Title
  • Year of production
  • Materials
  • Measurements (metric system – cm)
  • Price to the public (Mexican pesos)
  • Brief abstract of the pieces in relation to the theme (max. 500 words)

4. Specific information by discipline:

Sculpture: weight of the piece(s) and assembly/disassembly measurements (if applicable)

Photograph: information on the support (for example, type of paper) and framing status.


5. CV of the participants

The works must not be owned by any public or private collection and must be available for sale.

Participants must take into account the weather conditions of Mérida.

The final price must include the Gallery's commission (50%) and must not exceed $50,000 MXN.


Dates:

1. Proposals will be received from August 1 to August 18, 2024.

2. The selected participants will be announced on September 8.

3. The selected work will be received from September 9 to September 20.

4. The opening of the exhibition will take place during the month of October.

Pieces that arrive in poor condition or that do not meet the specified requirements will not be exhibited. The pieces must be sent with assembly instructions.

Those selected authorize, from the moment of their participation in this event, the use of images and sketches for communication purposes in the various dissemination channels of Galería Secreta.

Participation in the exhibition implies acceptance of the rules, conditions, registration and general information.

Participants authorize the organizing party to use the images of the registered works for the purposes of dissemination, communication and promotion.

The Curatorship will be in charge of Adriana Jiménez Marín.
